aperture & shutter speed

Hello creative photographers , after we know how to set our ISO number depending on how much light we have let’s go to the second part in this triangle, the Shutter speed , it simply controls the amount of light , aka iris which means the pupil of the human eye because it kind of work like the eye , it get wider as light decreases to let in more available light in the camera and it get smaller when light increases to reduce the amount of light entering the *eye* it means the lens of the camera . So it’s kind of artifice that opens and closes to let more or less light pass through the camera .

Like The ISO there’s a set of numbers in every camera to indicate how large or small the aperture is aka The f number . The numbers statrs from f/1.4 which is the largest opening allowing the most light and ends in f/22 which is the smallest opening allowing the less light .

But the f number is a little bit tricky because a higher number of f-number means a smaller aperture means lees light while A lower f-number means a larger aperture means more light . On each time we change the aperture we either double the amount of exposure or reduce it to a half , and you can control this amount of exposure by two moods either manual or auto .

The Auto mood : which maintains the light level no matter how many time it changes while you’re shooting . It makes your camera take the most beautiful picture available but you will not be able to change any number yourself . Also for professional photography we don’t prefer using the Auto mode because it’s the best for image expouse , the best is to set it yourself with the Manual Mode : when you have a ring on the camera that you can adjust the aperture with it as you want your image to be .

Finally our last exposure triangle  which is the shutter speed , which is simply the time of light entering the camera , imagine it to be a door that opens fast or slow to let less or more light to the image, if it opens slow it will ley more light to the image, if it opens fast it will let less light to the image and the shutter numbers starts from 30 seconds to 1/8000 or more which means that the 30 seconds is low number of shutter speed , why it’s low because it will be a slow shutter but on the other side a 1/125 means one hundred and twenty five of a second which is a fast shutter speed but means less light .

This image shows the difference between slow and fast shutter speed , slow will save the motion of the subject and make a motion blur but fast shutter stop at a single motion and made it freezes  , that’s why you set it depending on what mood you want on your image. I will show you some examples of photos i took earlier to make it easier

A high shutter speed image i set iso on 800 , aperture 4 , shutter speed 1/1000

Why i set the iso on high number because the lens will open and close very fast so the light sensitivity will be so low that’s why i have to set a high Iso and a high aperture

A low shutter speed image i set ISO 100 , Aperture 11 , shutter speed 15 seconds

Why i set the Iso on a low number? Because the camera will keep recording for 15 seconds which will get a lot  of light enters our lens so we have to lower the Iso and the f/ number
